flexible, practical
and approachable

Hotbox Events recruits and manages staff and volunteers for UK music festivals and events. We were commissioned to create a campaign of stories and adverts to increase social media engagement.

Previously we had worked with Hotbox to produce material using stock footage and still images. For the 2019 campaign we took the opportunity to spend time with Hotbox staff and volunteers at Download and Latitude festivals; exploring the work they do by focusing on themes and stories important to active and potential crew members.

We want these volunteer stories to be authentic and conversational. Our interviewees are mostly volunteers and appear on-camera with no script or briefing. In such a challenging environment our attitude needs to be flexible, practical and approachable.

In keeping with other projects we were interested to explore the process and work that happens behind the scenes at a festival. Often the focus is on the main stage but for many the stories are made back in the campsite. The Hotbox volunteers are an important part of the team that help make the campsites fun and safe spaces for all.

In early 2019 we launched a cohesive collection of authentic stories. This authenticity resonated with the public and Hotbox saw a successful increase in engagement through social media.

Hotbox saw a 49% increase in impressions, a 25% reduction in checkout costs and a 17% increase in website checkouts.

It’s important that we see the volunteers having fun and meeting new people, an integral part of the festival experience.
