We worked closely with the LSO to produce a selection of material surrounding a concert in January 2017.

Mahler’s Symphony no. 6 is famous for its use of a giant hammer in the final movement. We began our involvement in the project by proposing treatments for trailers featuring LSO principal percussionist Neil Percy and a giant hammer. The first and favourite trailer pays homage to a famous scene from Pulp Fiction.

With thanks to the management at City DIY we took over a corner of the shop for a couple of hours one January morning and set up, very quickly, for the shoot. The original scene from Pulp Fiction features a sweaty, vested Bruce Willis searching for a suitable weapon to dismiss diabolical, hillbilly brothers Zed and Maynard. The scene is about 60 seconds long and is mostly one take, a tricky scene to try and recreate especially with a non-actor. But we were foolish to worry, Neil proved himself to be a natural in front of the camera.

On the day of the concert we provided a crew to take care of the backstage live stream that aired pre-concert and during the interval on Facebook Live. With two cameras, sound and lights we followed presenter Rachel Leach for 15 minutes successfully navigating the busy backstage area.

As well as providing camera operators for the concert live stream we were also charged with completing the final edit. A job that required a quick turnaround for sharing online.
