In February 2012 the London Symphony Orchestra announced it was to play the first of a major series of outdoor concerts – sponsored by BMW – at Trafalgar Square.

After creating a film of the 2012 concert we were invited back in subsequent years but in 2016 tried something different.

We followed LSO Double Bass Matthew Gibson around for a day, along with performing Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, he talks about working with our 8 to 18-year-old young musicians from across East London in LSO On Track and on how this is such a great event for London, Londoners and the London Symphony Orchestra.

We also captured the LSO sing surprise event. A large group of singers from our choirs – London Symphony Chorus, LSO Community Choir and LSO Discovery Choirs, as well as a few additional volunteers, with their conductor Lucy Griffiths converged on the square singing and forming the butterfly logo shape with their umbrellas.

The concert, now in its fifth year, is part of a joint partnership with BMW, and is supported by the Mayor of London.
